Our Immediate Past President discusses mentorship and equity in The Lancet Neurology

Kathleen Digre, MD, FAHS, was featured recently in The Lancet Neurology, where she discusses how she fell in love with neurology and her hopes for the field.

Dr. Kathleen Digre cited as an influence C. P. Snow’s essay “Two Cultures,” which she read as an English teacher. Snow argued that those in the arts should engage in science, and scientists should engage in the arts. So Dr. Digre did. In medical school, she found neurology to be similar to explicating literature and during her fellowship in neuro-ophthalmology at the University of Iowa, she fell in love with headache medicine.

The rest, as they say, is history. Among her many achievements in the field of headache medicine, Dr. Digre served as American Headache Society President from 2018 to 2020 and received its prestigious John R Graham award in 2020.
