August 2021 Society Spotlight
Meet Amy Gelfand, MD, FAHS, Editor-in-Chief, Headache
Hello from the editorial desk at Headache.
2021 has been an excellent year for the Journal so far, with several exciting developments.
In June, our 2020 impact factor was released: 5.887. This is the highest impact factor ever for Headache. I congratulate my predecessor, Tom Ward, MD, FAHS, for this remarkable achievement, as well as our seasoned Executive Editor, Jason Roberts, and our many wonderful authors and reviewers.
We now offer CME (Continuing Medical Education) credits to reviewers and hope that many of you will take advantage of this new benefit.
Each quarter, we have been producing a Virtual Issue on a timely topic in headache medicine. These online issues curate the most interesting articles published in the Journal in the preceding 2 years on a particular topic. In the first quarter of 2021, we focused on Headache and COVID-19, with Drs. Sarah Bobker and Matthew Robbins selecting the articles and penning an accompanying editorial. Pediatric Headache was the topic for the second quarter virtual issue, with Drs. Serena Orr and Scott Powers serving as editors. Our third quarter Virtual Issue will focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion in headache medicine, and Drs. Larry Charleston IV and Rashmi Halker Singh have put together an outstanding series of articles for this upcoming issue. Looking forward to the fourth quarter, expect an issue focused on international work in headache, with Drs. Patricia Pozo-Rosich and Till Sprenger as editorialists.
We are looking forward to offering our new Basic Science Award in January 2022 for the best preclinical paper published in Headache in 2020 or 2021. This award will come with prize money and the opportunity to deliver the keynote address at our Journal Basic Science Webinar early next year. There is still time to submit and be eligible for this award, and we hope you will consider submitting your best preclinical work to Headache. Dr. Amynah Pradhan will be leading the Virtual Issue on basic science in headache medicine in Q1 of 2022.
Our social media/online editor, Dr. Rashmi Halker Singh, continues to keep readers up-to-date on the latest Journal developments on Twitter @headachejournal, while Dr. Sarah Bobker helms the Journal’s Instagram @headachejournal.
We were thrilled to welcome our 2021-2022 class of Assistant Editors to the Journal after a robust and competitive application process. Congratulations to Drs. Elizabeth Ackley, Vimala Bharadwaj, Moises Dominguez, Anders Hougaard, and Shawn Love.
Lastly, I would like to take this opportunity to invite readers and members to reach out to our editorial team at any time with your questions or suggestions.
